The objective of the Swedish programme is to bring students to a proficient level in the language and gain a good command of the four language skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing and to acquire a sound knowledge of Swedish culture and society as well. The Swedish programme is offered as a minor.

BA Syllabus (2017-2018)

Learning Outcomes:
Students who have completed a BA programme in Swedish should be able to:

• Pursue the life-long appreciation of other cultures and languages
• Demonstrate understanding of the process of language learning
• Understand issues in contemporary Swedish and Swedish-speaking societies
• Express their opinions in spoken and written form
• Recognize how differences in our cultural and linguistic backgrounds influence our interactions with others and generate multiple interpretations of events and issues
• Demonstrate competence, sensitivity, and open-mindedness when communicating and working within diverse cultural environments
• Recognize linguistic and cultural skills as significant advantages in the global workspace
• Use my acquired language skills and understanding of Swedish culture to communicate effectively in both work and social settings
• Respect the contributions of team members from different languages and cultural contexts
• Converse and write narratives and summaries on various topics, experiences and events
• Understand similarities in culture and linguistics between the Nordic countries and appreciate the importance of common cultural space for development of the region.
• Demonstrate awareness of similarities and differences between the home and Swedish culture
